Everything Employees Need to Help Them Work from Home

A year in and many companies around the UK are still working from home.

By now, the majority of companies have put things in place to ensure a seamless system and working environment for their staff. However, if you’re unsure as to what it is your employees exactly need, then this checklist should offer some clarity.

Consider who can work from home and in what capacity

Although COVID has forced the hands of many businesses, not all roles will need to remain as remote positions; this may be a decision made between the individual within the role as well as higher management.

However, for those who are, and will most likely remain in their full-time position remotely, then it’s important to accommodate that.

Consider suitable equipment, such as:

  • A desk

  • Computer chair

  • Laptop

  • Internet connection

Many employers have set up systems to ensure that their home-based workers can afford the added costs of home internet and electricity bills; this is one thing to consider introducing as a way to support your staff.

Promote wellness as a work from home essential

We don’t recommend that employers tell their workers how to act within their own home, however, in their work hours, we do recommend that employers integrate wellness into the working day.

Where many employees would walk to work in the morning or around the office for a stretch, the lockdown has made physical activity difficult.

As we’re constrained to our homes, the opportunity to go to a gym or travel for exercise has been limited to the spaces within and around our homes.

Wellness is fundamental to workers, so we suggest weaving it into your work from home checklist.

It will help your employees get away from their technology, but it will also help promote their focus.

Concrete systems put in place

Whether it’s an IT system or an easy-to-access digital HR team, making solutions easily accessible to your workers, as they’re taken out of the usual working environment, is fundamental to ensure a supportive working atmosphere.

There needs to be a simple line of support they can turn to for any issue.

Whether it’s a problem that their manager can fix over Zoom or one that requires more on-hands assistance (such as the IT team).

Ensure you supply your employees with:

·   The right programmes on any company laptop to assist with any IT issues.

·   A clear list of emails and numbers of contactable members of staff who can assist.

·   A regular meeting set up between managers and employees to assist with any general issues.

Transparent systems that solve potential issues are a simple way to ensure a productive working environment at home.

Even if you don’t plan on making your staff work from home permanently, we recommend installing a few of these features to ensure that the time working from home is as seamless as possible.
