Health Surveillance Follow-up Assessment.
Specialist support when an employee’s health shows a consistent concern.
In some situations, routine health surveillance will identify results that need a closer look — whether that relates to hearing, respiratory health, skin concerns, musculoskeletal issues, or any other change that could affect someone’s wellbeing or safety at work. When this happens, OH One provides a focused follow-up assessment to review the findings in more detail, understand what may be driving the change, and offer clear, practical next steps for both you and your employee. This ensures every outcome is managed consistently, proportionately, and with the right level of clinical oversight.
Below is an example for employees experiencing changes in hearing.
Our Health Surveillance Follow-up Assessment offers a detailed review for staff who show repeated Category 3 hearing loss on workplace audiometry. Delivered remotely by an OH Nurse trained in audiometry, it explores the likely cause of the change, the implications for work and safety, and the practical steps employers can take. You’ll receive clear, proportionate guidance — including when medical escalation is appropriate — helping you meet your Health Surveillance responsibilities with confidence.
What this assessment is
This is a structured occupational health review carried out by a Specialist OH Nurse with accredited audiometry training. It’s used when an employee presents with consistent Category 3 hearing results, and you need clarity on risk, safety, and next steps. Consultations take place remotely (video or phone), making it easy to support multi-site or dispersed workforces.
When a Health Surveillance follow-up assessment is needed
You should use this service when:
An employee has repeated Category 3 hearing loss results across 3–6 months.
The GP or audiology service has discharged the individual without further treatment.
You require clear guidance before involving an Occupational Health Physician.
This step ensures your decisions are safe, fair, and evidence-based.

What the assessment covers
The consultation focuses on three key areas:
1. Clinical and exposure review
We review audiograms, medical history, possible causes of hearing loss (occupational and non-occupational), and any GP/audiology reports.
2. Impact on work and safety
We explore day-to-day functioning, communication challenges, safety-critical tasks, alarm audibility, and the suitability and use of hearing protection. Wellbeing and psychological impact are also considered.
3. Practical action plan
You’ll receive a concise, work-focused summary covering workplace adjustments, PPE advice, noise control considerations, and the employee’s role in managing their hearing health.
When medical referral is recommended
If the review indicates possible noise-induced hearing loss, worsening thresholds, or ongoing safety concerns even after adjustments, we will recommend referral to an Occupational Health Physician. This ensures the right escalation at the right time.
