Here’s How to Promote Mental Health Practices at Work
Yesterday was Mental Health Day, and in true tradition of the event, we decided it would be worth exploring how any company can promote healthy mental health practices in their workspace.
A good mental health system will help your employees feel supported, heard, and more productive in their work. Remember, employees can only work to their best ability if they are happy and content.
1) Mental health groups
By creating a designated group of employees who are non-judgmental, unbiased, and have the appropriate training, you’re able to create a workforce of internal support.
Having people that others can go to for advice and support without it impacting their job role is important.
2) Make mental health a part of the ethos
Mental health is a critical topic that should be written into the company policy.
By showing your employees and the world that you support mental health, to the point of advocating safe and fair mental health rights, you’re showing them that your mental health advocation is tangible and not merely a faux display.
3) Offer external support
Not everyone feels comfortable enough with their colleagues to open up about their private life and mental health, that’s why it’s critical that you offer external support as well as internal.
This may be in the form of discounted therapy, connections with licensed doctors and psychologists, or partnerships with wellness centres.
An easy way to promote mental health at work is to provide easy access to it.
4) Build mental health into the workday
This could be a designated five-minute step away from your desk or an after-hours yoga session.
By making mental health a priority at work, you’re encouraging your employees to make it a part of their life.
There are plenty of ways that you can ensure that mental health is appropriately discussed and supported at work. You have more power than you realise – it’s time that you yield it.
