Mental Health Checks for Managers

It’s always important to discuss employee health because so often it is overlooked, however, it’s important to also focus on the managers in the workplace.

If your workplace is particularly hierarchal, with managers following a system of command, then it’s important to be aware that they may feel more vulnerable than those working in a smaller office.

All the same, managers are little considered when it comes to their mental health. Here’s how OH One intends to change that.

Workshops

At OH One, we offer a series of workshops to develop happier workplaces.

In particular, one of our most popular is the workshop that examines managers’ mental health.

We explore various things in the workshop, one of which being a discussion into the understanding of mental health issues. This may include encouraging lifestyle change, introducing awareness techniques to manage negative thought, and recognising and validifying burnout.

Practical steps

If you’ve established the ways in which your managers are feeling, then that’s a great first step to have taken.

If your employees or managers haven’t stepped forward to make you aware of their mental health, it may be worth knowing that according to MHFA England, 69% of UK managers have said that supporting employee wellbeing is a core skill. However, only 13% have received mental health training.

By introducing a concept like mental health training, you can prepare your staff to not only monitor and be a support to others in their team but also, to consider their own experiences in relation to the training.

Training

Never see any type of training as anything less than an investment.

Mental health techniques and experiences continue to grow and develop over time, and treatments in response to this change will transform with it.

As such, you save yourself more time, money, and staff retention if you consider employees as people and not just employees.
