Ways to Celebrate National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day is on the 21st of September and is a great way to take stock of the best exercise techniques for your staff.

Exercise is a personal preference and cannot be enforced by a company if the employee doesn’t want to exercise. However, a regular bout of exercise in our lives helps reduce feelings of depression, anxiety, and helps promote a healthy lifestyle.

That’s why on National Fitness Day, here are a few recommendations to offer to your employees.

1)    Free Yoga

Yoga can be done together over Zoom, in the office, or encouraged individually.
It may be that you send around a weekly yoga newsletter, filled with tips, exercises, and stretches, or that you just encourage your staff to walk away from their desks and stretch. Either way, yoga is a great way to work your body and feel every part of yourself at the moment.

2)    10-minute Walks

Experts recommend that employees get away from their desks for at least five minutes every hour. However, you could take it one step further and suggest 10-minute walks. In 10 minutes, your employee can go outside, go for a run, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the environment around them. This can be great for focus, gratitude, and mental health.

3)    Digital Meditation

Another group activity that may inspire your workforce is digital meditation. This is an exercise that can be carried out over Zoom, and while it may not be seen as your typical fitness exercise, it is incredibly fundamental to use meditation as a way to connect with ourselves. There are lots of resources on YouTube and mobile apps.

4)    Free Gym Memberships

If your company is in a situation where they can afford to offer employees various benefits, then a popular one to explore is a free gym membership – and if you’re not able to get one for free, then you may be able to get one at a discounted rate.

5)    Educational Seminars 

Even while we’re all currently working from home, an educational webinar (or in-office seminar) on the importance of fitness could be incredibly beneficial to many employees.
Some people don’t understand the importance that even a simple walk offers. But by having an expert in the industry come in discussing it, their perspective could entirely shift.

Beginning to live a healthy life typically begins with fitness. This may not be the case in every scenario, but it is for many others. By introducing fitness to those who struggled with it before, you’re able to allow people to approach it in a new way.
