Why Every Business Needs a Health Check

No business is perfect – whether you’re a global conglomerate or you’re a small start-up, there are always going to be flaws in how you operate.

That doesn’t need to limit you, instead, it’s a way to take your flaws and turn them into strengths.

When OH One conducts a business health check, these are the things that we look for.

1)    Health and wellbeing

A big part of a healthy work environment is how the employees are feeling. When we carry out our business health check, we’ll be examining your employees’ attitudes towards work and how their job has (or hasn’t) impacted their health and wellbeing.

If your employees are struggling with their wellbeing or health, then we have experts and nurses who can work with your employees to help support them.

2)    Legal requirements

A few weeks ago, we explored the legal side of health and safety. As many of us are aware, a law was passed in 1974 to create safe working environments for employees and employers.

Some of the things that make up a safe working environment are whether employees are using the right equipment, or if employees have received the appropriate training for said equipment, and which steps to take in the event of an accident happening.

When our team run through these legal requirements, if there are any areas that you’re lacking in then we’ll make you aware of them and help put steps in place to rectify any issues.

3)    The behavioural, cultural, and institutional factors

Every workplace has a culture that develops over time, you may not be overtly aware of it but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

When we perform our health check, our team will come in and offer analysis into your business environment.

If the behaviour of your team or the culture that has been created within the workplace proves to spur on negative emotions, then our experts will map out a solution and explore ways that you may be able to unpick it.

Some instances of a negative work environment may be a space that is spurned on by unhealthy competition. In an environment such as this, the employees may be so focused on being ‘the best’ that they go to extreme lengths to outdo one another, as opposed to creating a collaborative space where employees work together towards one goal.

Every business is unique in its own way – and each has its own flaws. By acknowledging those flaws, your team are one step closer to creating a cohesive environment that works for everyone.
