Affordable Ways to Create a Happier Workplace
Most good companies want to ensure that their employees are happy, however, sometimes financial constraints can limit employers from putting steps in place to ensure their employees’ happiness.
However, there are a few things you can do to supplement this feeling.
1) Bring Nature Indoors
It’s a fact that nature helps reduces anxiety and promote a cleansed environment.
Whether it’s an office plant that everyone can help take care of or a few plants on each desk, this is one of the little things that will help your employees on a biochemical level.
2) Physical Health
Encouraging physical health is never a bad thing, as long as you don’t force anyone into it.
However, activities like yoga, meditation, and light exercise are all proven to improve feelings of anxiety and depression; while still being a healthy way to move your body.
It’s fairly easy to find free yoga or meditation videos on YouTube. All you’ll need to do is to invest in some yoga mats or, if you’re near a park, you can try it altogether outside with nature.
Either way, it’s an easy and cheap way to promote healthy living in the workplace; and form some unlikely friendships.
3) Employees’ Financial Futures
If your company is on the stock market or planning an IPO launch, then it’s always a possibility to offer your employees a small percentage of ownership in the form of company shares.
This tells your employees you’d like to offer them money, but puts it in a way that doesn’t cost you anything extra. And also offers employees the opportunity to venture onto the stock market in an easy and safe way.
4) Positive Attitudes
Kindness may seem like a given.
However, many employers run their company with an iron fist; they may shout at their employees or reinforce negative beliefs in them. Over time, this beats employees down and ruins their spirit.
The only thing that can fix this is kindness.
Being kind, forgiving, and understanding of your employees allows them to make mistakes safely, come to you with any concerns (if they choose to), and take risks and explore their creativity; which often leads to some of the best work.
5) Mentoring
If your employee is wanting to gain a promotion or raise, but you can’t afford it then an easy way to help with this is through mentoring.
Everyone has something they can teach and something to learn.
It may be that you set up a buddy scheme so that two people can learn from one another, or that you impart some of your own wisdom as a boss.
Either way, mentoring is a simple way to give people the experience and chance to learn; without having to invest in external teaching methods.
