How to Help Those with Physical Trauma Injuries at Work

Any workspace should want to help its employees in all aspects of their personal life. If an employee of yours is struggling with their physical health, then there are a few things that you can do to help them through their pain.

The Facts

There are currently 11 million people with a disability in the UK.

Whether your employee suffers from a disability or physical health trauma, they will need the correct help and support at work.

This support may vary depending on their personality, current financial situation, or how their mental health may have been impacted. Either way, it’s imperative that your employee receives some form of it.

How to Help

Your employees are people too, they have emotions and feelings – and need to be treated as such.

Here are a few simple things you can do to help ease any stress they may be feeling:

  • Have an open discussion

Talking is often the first step of solving any issue in the workplace, regardless of what the issue is.
If in a comfortable space, your employee is able to open up honestly about the way they’re feeling and possible offering you solutions to their issues.

  • Money isn’t always the solution, but…

Sometimes employees need to know that their job is secure before they’re willing to start their healing journey.

Some employees may need your assurance that you can support their time off, and promise their job is safe upon their return.

There are some laws into employee rights, so it’s always critical to consult the law – however, allowing an employee the right to return to their job and pay for their time of absence will always be appreciated. And create an unbreakable bond between you and the employee.

  • Make adjustments

An employee may have recently experienced a physical tragedy that meant they can’t use their body in the way they previously did, but making adjustments for them (installing a ramp or lifts, for instance) shows them that you’re dedicated to their healing and that they’re still a valuable member of your team.

These adjustments can go a long way to an employee’s health. Just make sure you do your research before you assume what they need, rather than what they actually need.

Our physical health can impact our lives in more ways than one. Check-in on your employees who have recently suffered, their mental health may have also taken an impact.
