How a Holistic Methodology Helps the Workplace
A holistic methodology is one that we’ve subscribed to at OH One. But what do we mean when we say holistic methodology?
Essentially, holistic practice is when a person or entity takes into account the whole person and not just one aspect.
For example, a holistic methodology wouldn’t just focus on mental health but also physical and emotional wellbeing.
How it helps
By taking into account all aspects of an employees’ holistic needs, you’re taking into account all needs they encounter.
This allows the person to be seen as something more than just one faucet, but an entire array. By seeing your employees for all that they are, an employee can feel listened to, appreciated, and like they matter; which they do.
This proactive attitude creates a steady and healthy relationship between the employer and the employee.
How to implement it
A holistic attitude can be implemented into the structure of your workplace in multiple of ways.
· Physically: workplaces can offer restaurant vouchers and free fruit in the office as a way to help promote a healthy diet.
· Emotionally: opportunities to access therapy could be included as a way to support employees with their emotional needs.
· Socially: work events that bring colleagues together could be arranged as a way to ensure that your employees are socialising and seeing people outside of working hours.
· Mentally: ensuring that their workload is fair but challenging is a great way to make sure that your employees are mentally stimulated.
Holism also allows for religious or spiritual teachings; however, this isn’t necessarily something to force on your staff but something they can come to naturally. It’s important to keep in mind that some religions require allowances to be made; this is so that needs such as private prayer times and diet regulations can be met.
Holism: an overview
Holism is a framework that is cropping up in more and more spaces around the UK, there are many benefits to the methodology that employees and employers are understanding.
While it may not be a methodology that works for you, by trying it out, you’re presenting your company as one that puts the wellbeing of your staff first – which is what all businesses should do.
